He graduated from High School and Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Virginia with AA Degree in Commercial Arts in 1974 and BFA in Painting, San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, California in 1976. Kenneth emailed me this statement on 1/18/04: “I was stationed at NAS Imperial Beach, CA back in 1970. It was a little bit crazy volunteering for helicopter duty in the Vietnam times. My chances were real slim if I went to combat that I would not come back. My dear father raised me to be a patriot and told me not to be an volunteer for anything. But I came from a proud Stockton family full of WW II veterans that did their duty. Once my aviation schooling and helicopter training was over, the Training (HS-10) Squadron kept me because I could read (joke) and write reports. I became a helicopter trainer to train others to make those birds fly. That is when I realized that someone was watching over me. I watched so many go and never come back and I was just lucky in some ways. Yes, I was called a baby killer in California sitting on the beach watching the sunsets, but I was a proud patriot. I give thanks everyday.”
