born in Philadelphia,
of Huguenot descent, and was a brother of Annis (Boudinot) Stockton.
He
received a classical education and read law with Richard Stockton(4),
"The
Signer", and became eminent in the practice of the profession in New
Jersey.
He was devoted to the American cause in the Revolution, was appointed
commissary general of prisoners in 1777, and served as Congressman
from New
Jersey in 1778-1779, and from 1781 till 1784. He was chosen president
of the
Continental Congress in 1782, and as such signed the treaty of peace
with
England. After the war, he was elected to the first, second,
and third
congresses, and served from 1789 till 1795. President George
Washington
appointed him director of the mint, and he served from 1795 till 1805,
when
he resigned, and retired to his home in Burlington, New Jersey.
He was
wealthy and gave liberally to many charitable and educational causes.
He
also wrote a number of political and religious books. He died
in Burlington,

Nancy Wilson
Stockton's father was Thomas J. Wilson. Thomas J. Wilson built
a two story
hewn timber house 10 miles East of Winston Salem, North Carolina in
the early
19th century. It features one original chimney with a lozenge
design.
Thomas Wilson, a non-moravian, was selected to run the Salem Tavern
in 1843,
but he died before he began his duties. The Salem Tavern was
located in Old
Salem which is now a part of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He
had rented
his "house and plantation" to another family when he moved to Salem,
so the
Moravians allowed Mrs. Wilson and her son, Thomas J. Wilson, Jr., to
remain
as keepers of the Salem Tavern until 1844. In 1848 Thomas J.
Wilson, Jr.,
sold the family farm to William Franklin Stockton. Thomas J.
Wilson, Jr.
built a house just north of Salem. In 1913, the Townsend family
bought the
farm from the Stockton heirs. In the 1920s the interior of the
Wilson-Stockton House was altered substantially, and in 1963 the front
porch
was added. The Wilson-Stockton House is listed in the official
inventory of
historic properties of Forsyth County. William Franklin Stockton
and Nancy

CICERO FRANCIS STOCKTON(7) (Born December 1, 1845 in Forsyth County,
Kernersville, North Carolina - Died August 26, 1918 at 73 years old
in
Forsyth County, Kernersville, North Carolina) was a son of Thomas Clayton
Stockton(6). Cicero joined the Confederate Army and was a Prisoner
of War.
He married Rachel Louise Dicks (Born November 17, 1844 - Died July
12, 1928
at 84 years old). Cicero and Rachel (Dicks) Stockton are both
buried in Mt.
Gur Cemetery (oldest cemetery in Kernersville) in Kernersville, North
Carolina. Their granddaughter, Alice Guy Stockton, who died June
16, 1921 in
a barn fire, is buried to the right of their grave site. To the
left of
their grave site is the Oliver grave sites where daughter Roberta Stockton(8)
